Charity

Charity is one of the most noble tasks that a man can do in his life.According to different religious beliefs, our life on earth is just a transitory phase of an eternal journey towards salvation. So, this brief period that we are on earth, which we call life, has to be lived with a purpose. For some people the true meaning of life is the joy of giving. They realize this dream of theirs by engaging in acts of charity.

A charitable person loves his fellow-beings and likes to help them in distress. He is very sensitive to the feelings of others. The sight of pain or misery troubles him and he tries his level best to alleviate that misery. He is deeply moved  at the sight of beggars, or victims of natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes etc.

Today , the world is in greater need of charity than ever before. The gap between the rich and the poor is widening. While on one hand, we have the billionaire businessmen, sport stars and movie stars. While on the other hand we have millions of diseased and starving men, women and children dying for that one morsel of grain that would keep them alive. If all the rich people and even people who are reasonably well-off contribute something in terms of money, food, clothes or even empathy, then the world would definitely be better off.

There is no denying the fact that sections from the rich have always contributed towards the upliftment of the poor. Many big corporations ,charitable trusts and societies make good contributions in areas of poverty-alleviation,food supply,education and health.Recently the two richest men on the planet, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and investor Warren Buffet announced the donation of a lion's share of their wealth to charity. They also called upon fellow billionaires all over the world to emulate them. This has had  a ripple effect whose benefits are being seen all over the world. But evidently, a lot more needs to be done.

But this does not necessarily mean that one has to be a billionaire to show charity.Even simple actions like feeding a poor man for a day, or teaching a poor kid are acts of charity. Every person can do his own bit , and it would make some difference to another person's life. Also, acts of charity should not be trumpeted. It should be done from the heart and not for publicity or other commercial purposes. The best form of charity is the one in which the identity of the donor remains hidden.

Apartheid ( Racism)

For centuries of human existence, we have believed or rather taught to believe that humanity has by nature, been divided into races or castes and that certain races are superior to others in terms of physical or intellectual endowments. The discrimination that follows this belief is called racism or apartheid.

Since time immemorial, society has been divided into various classes and communities. In countries like India, there was a caste system. It was believed that God had created people of a particular caste only to do one kind of job.So the castes were developed along occupational lines. The people who performed low-key jobs were treated were badly. This attitudee has been so strongly ingrained in the Indian psyche that it continues to exist even today, to some measure.

In the western world apartheid is mostly based on the colour of the skin. The white races consider that they are the true builders of civilization and the 'lesser people' like the Africans and Asians are destined to serve under them.It all  started around 600 years ago, during the age of colonization, when European explorers discovered new lands of Africa and Asia.Even as they colonized the African territories, they enslaved their people. The Black people of U.S.A are actually descendants of Africans who were brought to America only to be sold as slaves.

However, in the modern world, racism has got no place. Our ancestors could be pardoned for all the crimes they committed in the name of race,as they were not properly informed or educated at that time. But today , given the advances we have made in science and technology, we are much more informed . We know very well that all people are equal before God, and that there  should be no feeling of superiority or inferiority among any race.Any form of racism if practised, is against the law and will not be tolerated. The Journey has not been easy. It required exemplary efforts from great men to bring about this change in attitude.

While in India ,it was Mahatma Gandhi who led the movement to eliminate caste based discrimination, in the United States there was the young Martin Luther King who fought for equal rights for blacks. In South Africa , Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in jail to get equal rights for the blacks of his nation.

Even though the efforts of these great men have been fruitful in bringing changes to the laws of the land, the ghost of racism still lies in the minds of many people. Only when we are able to educate and cleanse the minds of people,we can truly believe to have won the battle against this evil..

Illiteracy in India

More than six decades have passed since India achieved independence from the British.Still India remains a backward country because more than forty percent of India's population is illiterate.Illiteracy is today one of the main problems facing the country and remain a major obstacle to national growth and development.

Though there has been a considerable increase in the number of schools and colleges,it has not kept pace with the rapid increase in population. As a result, large numbers of our children are denied education and hence remain illiterate. Another major reason for the wide-spread illiteracy in our country is the unaffordability of education , especially in the private schools.

The reasons for illiteracy are mainly financial.Since a vast section of the population lives below below the poverty line or just marginally above it,they cannot afford to send their children to private schools. In the backward interiors of the country , the number of government -run schools is very less, thus leaving a big gap between demand and supply resulting in widespread illiteracy..In addition , the poor need more helping hands at work, and so put they children to work at any early age.

The ill-effects of illiteracy are manifold. A nation whose large number of population are uneducated can never aspire to become developed and prosperous. It is only through education that people acquire knowledge and skills.Only when the population becomes skilled and employable , the industries can grow and create more jobs.
A country like the United states of America , owes its super power status and prosperity to its excellent education system.Quality education empowers the masses and inspires them to achieve bigger things.

It is not that the government  has been sleeping over the issue. Successive governments have introduced many schemes to improve the condition of literacy in India. In 1978,a nationwide adult-education programme was introduced to encourage adults to get themselves educated. . 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan'  and 'Midday meal programme  in schools have been other measures adopted by the governmants to bring girls and kids from poor families to school. These measures have started showing results , of late and the literacy rate of India has slowly started to climb.

But a lot more needs to be done, and the government, NGO's and people must put in combined efforts to make more and more people literate. Our aim should be to achieve 100% literacy by 2030, so that we do not remain left behind in the march to progress.

My Pet Dog

Having a pet of your own is one of life's greatest pleasures.A pet gives us love and affection that we so deeply desire in our lives.Among pets the most popular is the dog.Dog has been man's best friend for ages and there is no animal which is as faithful and sincere as a dog.

I have a pet dog named Rocky. It belongs to the Dobermann Pinscher breed. It is black in colour with a shade of golden fur on its neck and chest. It was only 1 month old when Dad brought it home. The first time I saw it , I was just thrilled with joy.It looked like a soft black ball and was so cute. The bonding that developed there has since then, continued unbroken.

Slowly but steadily ,Rocky grew in confidence and came to be a part of our family. It plays with me and accompanies me in my morning walks. The very sight of it's bright eyes and wagging tail brightens up my day.Despite being playful and friendly , it is very obedient and takes my instructions without any complaints.I have taught it certain things and he has proved to be a quick learner. Also it is a very fierce customer when it comes to guarding the house. The sight of a stranger  at night brings out the soldier in Rocky and he starts barking ferociously, to scare him away.

Rocky is allowed entry into our home, but  it  never jumps on the sofa, or destroy anything. It was wonderful toilet habits and loves to be bathed and groomed regularly. He normally eats vegetarian food but also loves fish. Once a week, I feed him meat.He also relishes bread , biscuits and cakes. He loves playing with the ball and the both of us spend a lot of time during the vacations, playing with my bat and ball.

Rocky's presence adds meaning to my life.It has not only given me a friend to be cared by and to care for, but also has made me a more responsible and mature individual. But I know that a dog's life span is very short, so very soon it would have to leave me .Yet I keep praying to God to let it be with me forever.

My Hobby

A hobby can be defined as a pursuit which one undertakes in leisure for pleasure and not for profit. Most of us have some hobby or the other in our lives. Some of the popular hobbies are stamp or coin collection, reading fiction, fishing, photography, writing to pen friends, playing games like tennis, hockey etc.Hobbies are a reflection of one's personality, his likes and dislikes , his attitude and temperament.

My hobby is to learn and practise the ancient Japanese martial art of Karate.I have been learning Karate for the
last 5 years, and currently hold a brown black. It was a close friend of mine who introduced me to our neighbourhood karate class. Initially I was very sceptical and never thought I would continue with the class for long. The first thing I saw there was two people engaged in a bout of sparing.I was so fear stricken by that sight.
But gradually I realized that these fights were under the proper supervision of the Master and were held under certain rules of the game.I also got to know that karate is not all about just fighting. It also consists of different segments like combination exercises, breathing practise, flexibility , endurance etc.

Karate helps to develop various aspects of our mind and body. The combination exercises and shadow fighting help to improve concentration , reflexes, and imagination. The meditation  exercises help to regulate our breathing .The endurance activities build stamina and mental as well as physical toughness, and improve build circulation.
Above all, each action in Karate strengthens the muscles joints and ligaments of some part of the body .

As my master says, Fighting comes last in the list of benefits of Karate.Because according to him, Karate suld be used only for self-defence and not to attack anyone .Having said that, today I have the confidence to knock down atleast two people my size together.

I attend Karate classes twice a week and also practise at home three days a week.It has helped me improve my focus and concentration in studies, and thus bring better grades. It have also helped me to remain calm, composed and happy all the time.

The true purpose of a life is to remain happy, and the role of a hobby is to make one happy. In this regard, my hobby of Karate has really helped me to lead a meaningful life.

Population explosion

For centuries of human existence on this planet, our population has remained in proprtion to the natural resources available and the other species that have existed. But there has been a rapid increase in human population in the past century. This sudden spurt in human numbers is called population explosion .It is threatening the very existence of the earth.

Population explosion is defined as a huge growth in human population over a short period of time leading to shortage of available resources on the earth.Population explosion today is one of he most serious problems the world is facing.A few centuries ago, the world's population was less than 1 billion. Today two countries alone, India and China have more than billion each. The world population stands at more than 7 billion.

The main reason for population explosion is the lack of education and awareness among the poor in developing and underdeveloped countries. Most of the rural population have no information and awareness about population  control mechanisms. Also for the poor man, an additional offspring means and additional helping hand to take him out of poverty in the future.

There are several reasons to rein in this monster called population explosion. The main factor however is the resultant shortage of natural resources.A countries natural resources like land, water and forests are limited. As population increases, these resources get depleted fast. Also the governments of respective countries cannot cope up with the ever-increasing demand for  man-made resources like houses, electricity, services like transport ,health education etc.The result of this widening gap between demand and supply is clearly visible in most developing nations with excess population. The cities are crowded and filthy, the share of poor people is very high, and services are inadequate. The scramble for resources leads to disputes and wars.

However there is a ray of hope that humans would definitely be able to put a check on population growth in the coming years. Increased government and non-governmental efforts have led to more awareness among people about population control and in many places , these measures have yielded great success.Government measures like two-child policy, taxing people for an additional child, and rewarding people who adopt family planning measures, have really found favour with the poor. China's population has already shown signs of stabilization, and India too, appears to follow suit in the next couple of decades.Once we find our way through this mess, the world will be a better place to live.

terrorism

In any political establishment , there are legitimate legal and peaceful means of expressing displeasure or disagreement of certain policies of the rulers. The individual or group of individual can voice his protest and attract the attention of the government in a non-violent manner, and then get his demands accepted. This has been the norm for centuries oh human history.

Yet, of late there has emerged a new 'method' adopted by some sections of society to make their voice heard.
It is the path of terror.Terrorism today is one of the biggest problems faced by the world today.Terrorists are a group of people who make use of an extreme form of violence to raise their demands and to get them fulfilled.
These people conduct their activities in a secret manner. They plant bombs at important or crowded places, or sometimes become suicide bombers and come with the bombs themselves.  They hijack planes or buses, take people hostage ,assassinate leaders and conduct mass killings. In the process along with their targets, these demons end up slaughtering innocent men, women and even children.

Almost all of the civilized world has today been a victim of terrorism at some point of time or the other. While the mighty United States had to face the 9/11 attacks,India continues to face regular attacks in many of her cities, including the brutal Mumbai attack of 26/11.Even cities like London,Madrid,Stockholm,Moscow and Paris have borne the brunt of terrorist attacks. The major organizations that indulge in terorist activities are Al-Qaeda,Lashkar, LTTE and many others.

So what is the way out? Is there any solution to this menace?Well, as we continue to search for an answer to this question, the first thing we can do is to defend ourselves from further attacks.each country needs to strengthen its defence forces, police and judicial system and intelligence. We need to fortify our borders and constantly monitor them for any infiltration.Police and the public alike, should be vigilant about any anti-social activity in the neighborhood.Laws must be made more stringent and the judicial process must be efficient so that anybody before committing a crime should think about the consequences of his actions. At a global level, countries must unite to share intelligence and isolate those nations who support the terrorists.

Last but not the least,  governments should sincerely look into the demands of the opposing group and bring them to the discussion table .It must work for the upliftment of the poor because it is the poorest sections who out of frustration often turn towards violence.

If both governments and people all over the world show genuine sense of purpose and desire, then one day we can surely uproot this evil of terrorism from the world.

My role model in life

Everyone of us has a role model in life.A person whom we respect ,admire ,look up to and aspire to be like.It could be someone in the family who has impressed us since childhood. Or it could be a famous personality whose thoughts and actions influenced us. Whatever the case, such a role model plays a vital role in forming our beliefs and shaping our future.

My role model is none other that tennis star Roger Federer.Federer is a record 16-time Grand slam champion. He was world no. 1 for a record 237 consecutive weeks. He is considered by experts, fans and critics all over the world as the greatest  tennis player the world has ever seen.

Well, great players have been there in every sport.Pele in football, Bradman in cricket and Tiger woods in golf, just to name a few. Then what is it that makes Roger Federer so special ?To find the answer, one just needs to follow his career path, and his life so far.

There are certain qualities in this man, that makes him stand apart from the crowd.First and foremost ,it is his achievements in the game of tennis. No single player in  world tennis has ever dominated the game in the manner Federer did, in the period from around 2003 to 2009.He went on from winning one Grand Slam to another, and lapping up all the major world titles in between. In this age of fierce competition and cutting edge technology,to stay no. 1 and dominate the game for so long is simply unimaginable. But Federer did that, thus showcasing the qualities of greatness and superiority over one's competition.

More than his victories, it is the manner in which he dominates the game and just rolls over his opposition that inspires me.At one point of time, all the other top players in the world, just gave up competing for the top spot. They hailed 'King Roger' as the greatest and were content on fighting for the second spot.Federer has inspired me to take on new challenges, to push the envelope,to try my best and be a leader in whatever I do.

Finally, I also admire his humility and politeness, and the way he accepts defeat gracefully and respects his opponents.I have learnt from him to keep cool in victory and defeat, to take setbacks in my stride,to try to remain the best and at the same time give respect to your  opponents. To remain humble in victory , and graceful in defeat is a trait  have fully imbibed in my life.

I feel lucky to be living  in the same generation as this great man so that I can observe him achieving one milestone to another, and try to emulate the same in my own life.

My Best Friend

Man,by instinct, wants companionship as man is a social animal.Man meets numerous people in his journey through life but he does not make friends with all of them. This so happens because the essential condition of friendship is that there should be affinity of temperament, tastes and mind.Only the few in whom man discovers this affinity,he considers worth making friends with and such persons make a lasting niche in our life.

Sam is my friend. He has a charming personality and bears a good moral character. He possesses pleasing manners. He has been brought up in a congenial and healthy environment. Sam is a very obedient to both his parents and teachers. He respects all the elderly people and loves those who are younger to him.

Sam stands first in his class and all the teachers love him and admire him for his abilities. He as a very strong command over spoken and written English. He is a fine  orator and can speak on any topic extempore.

He plays football and is the captain of our school football team.He gets up early in the morning and devotes his time to studies. He also meditates and does yoga. He enjoys complete peace of mind.

He is sincere in all matters and helps me whwnever I need help.I am proud of Sam and want to follow his footsteps in all fields.I thank God for giving me such a dear friend. I also pray to God that our friendship should be enduring and should last forever.

autobiography of a car.

I am Jetta,a car manufactured by Volkswagen.I have just been shipped from the facory to the dealer's showroom. Here I will be kept on display till some happy customer comes and buys me.

From where did it all start? Ah, yes I remember.MY Company Volkswagen is a German automaking giant. As everybody knows, the Germans are renowned for their efficiency ,committment to quality and passion for building exciting and innovative products.Any product that comes from Germany is valued and admired for it's quality all over the world. My cousins at Audi too, would surely agree. So I too, was conceived in the German plant a few years back. But I was brought into the world , or as you call it,manufactured in an Indian company.Indians are known for their love and affection, so you can imagine the care and attention I got while I was being made in the factory.I could see tears in the eyes of my engineer parents, while seeing me off to the showroom.

India has one of the world's largest automobile markets, and there is a lot of competition from rival cars. But I am no pushover.I have a sturdy engine which can challenge the best in business. My power steering and automatic transmission make for enjoyable driving. For safety, I have airbags fitted in me,and for comfort I provide soft seats and a lot of foot space.I also have a special climate control system.

But above all, what makes me most desirable is my looks and style. My specially designed head and tail lights would have any car enthusiast fall for me.I am available in thre glitzy colours, black, white and silver.

But there are only two things that I fear. One is the bad condition of roads in India. Secondly , I shudder at the thought that some irresponsible fellow who drives roughly and would not take proper care of me,would come to buy me.

Alas, it seems somebody has agreed to buy me. He looks like a rich businessman and his manners are pleasing. This gives me two reasons to cheer. One, I might get to live in the city and enjoy good roads. Secondly the chap would take good care of me. Hurray! I'm so happy..

advantages and disadvantages of computers

When Charles Babbage invented the computer decades ago, he would probably not have realised the impact it would have  on mankind's future. The importance of computers in today's world can hardly be over-emphasized. Computers have become so much an integral part of the modern age, that we also call thiss period as the computer age.

In the initial years, the computer was a huge, and complex machine that was used for difficult work like performing calculations on raw data and procesing bulk information. This was mainly used in defence and scientific research. Then came the internet. With the arrival of the world wide web,the popularly of computers exceeded all conceivable limits. The invention of the e-mail and birth of efficient search engines further popularized the net.Today computers are an indispensable part of human life. They find their application in all spheres of human activity, ranging from building rockets to exchanging messages.Today, we use computers to store and manage data about people and companies, to diagnose and cure diseases,to book tickets,to teach , to gather information about anything under the sun,to create animation movies and produce special effects,to provide quicker and better quality service to customer in business,to communicate with people anywhere in the world using email, chatting or video-conferencing.

The efficiency and versatility of computers has led to the rise of a new sector called the information technology (IT) industry. The IT revolution took birth in the Silicon Valley in U.S.A, but later spread out to all parts of the world. There are thousands of software development companies today ,in which young engineers work hard to  build software products or provide high quality software services to client businesses all over the world. This industry provides employment to millions of people and keep adding millions every year. The IT industry has been instrumental in creating wealth and opportunities for many developing countries like India and China.

Today life without computers is unimaginable. The old bulky desktop has now given way to laptops, palmtops and tablet PC's.Given the rate at which technology is improving and new devices keep coming , computers promise to enrich our lives even further in the coming years and make our daily chores more convenient and interesting .

Hostel life

For most adults, be it bachelors, married people or old folks, the best years of their lives would have been their hostel lives.Hostel life is 'the ideal life', where we are free from Parental pressures and disciplining, and there is no sibling rivalry .It sis almost as if we grow a pair of wings, and are ready to fly high like birds, to the live the life of our dreams

There are many positives to living in a hostel. We need to take care of our own affairs, manage our own stuff, take our own decisions  and so on.This creates a sense of responsibility in us at a relatively early stage, as compared to day scholars who would still be nestled in the warmth of parental care. Also, for those having a disturbed home atmosphere, staying in a hostel comes as a blessing in disguise as it keeps them away from all the trouble and lets them focus on more important things, especially studies.

From an academic perspective also, staying in a hostel proves to be advantageous. We are far removed from the day-to day distractions and other household responsibilities at home. This gives us a lot of time to spend o studies, and secure better grades.Besides studies, hostel life provides us many opportunities to take part in extra-curricular activities, lie arts and sports. In most colleges, it is the hostel inmates who take up active roles in organizing events, paticipating in elections etc. By getting involved in all these activities, we develop valuable qualities like responsibility, dedication, hard work and problem solving skills, which would stand us in great stead for our future corporate lives.

But hostel life has its own share of dangers too.Freedom from parental control is a good thing, but only if it is used properly.Students , especially those who have had to live in a highly restricted environment , suddenly cherish the newly found fredom of a hostel.Their only aim would be enjoy. These people often lose sight of what is right  or wrong, and end up with disastrous consequences. Some of them are even mislead into drugs, alcohol etc. Also if the gang we belong to likes to splurge and hang out all the time, we too might be misguided .This would take away our focus from the most important objective, which is to study.Apart from this, hostel life has got other disadvantages like bad food, dirty surroundings and lack of proper facilities.

Thus it is up to the individual to make a choice whether to live in a hostel or not. Moreover , if he decides to experience hostel life, he must be determined to experience it responsibly, in a way that would only benefit him in his later years.

A Visit to a Historical place

In India , we can get to see a lot of historical places. These historical places are of much educational and historical value. It is therefore very important for students to visit atleast a few of them.

Delhi , the capital of  India is a place of great historical value.Within Delhi, there are several such places to visit, like the Qutab Minar,Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb etc.Last Sunday , the principal of our school arranged a trip for the senior students to visit the Red Fort. Most of the students had already visited the place, but such was its attraction that they wanted to visit it again.

The Red Fort is a 17th century fort complex constructed by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the walled city of Old Delhi. It served as the capital of the Mughals until 1857, when Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar was exiled by the British Indian government. The British used it as a military camp until India was made independent in 1947. It is now a popular tourist site, as well as a powerful symbol of India's sovereignty: the Prime Minister of India raises the flag of India on the ramparts of the Lahori Gate of the fort complex every year on Independence Day. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007

We reached the school at 8a.m in the morning.By 8.30 we set out from school in our school bus, and reached the Red Fort by 9a.m. At first sight itself, we were bowled over by this majestic structure.

The walls of the fort are smoothly dressed, articulated by heavy string-courses along the upper section. They open at two major gates, the Delhi and the Lahore gates. The Lahore Gate is the main entrance; it leads to a long covered bazaar street, the Chatta Chowk, whose walls are lined with stalls for shops.he southern end of this street is the Delhi Gate.

Ther are many important buildings and sructures within the red fort premises.Beyond the Delhi gate is another, larger open space, which originally served as the courtyard of the Diwan-i-Aam, the large pavilion for public imperial audiences with an ornate throne-balcony (jharokha) for the emperor. The columns were painted in gold and there was a gold and silver railing separating the throne from the public.

The pavilions are connected by a continuous water channel, known as the Nahr-i-Behisht, or the "Stream of Paradise", that runs through the centre of each pavilion. The water is drawn from the river Yamuna, from a tower, the Shah Burj, at the north-eastern corner of the fort.
Then we went to the 'Diwan-e-Khas',the hall of private audience where only select persons could meet the king.
Finally we went to the War Memorial museum where weapons used in the First World War are exhibited.

By noon , we had completed the tour of Red Fort and started our return journey back to school. It was really an unforgettable experience, which apart from being intellectuaaly rewarding , gave us a glimpse of our countries proud history.

choice of a profession (my career choice)

In olden days, choosing a profession was not all all  a cause of worry. A farmer's son became a farmer,a potter's son a potter , a king's son a king and so on. But in the modern era, it is skill and knowledge ,not the caste or community of a person which decides what profession to choose.

The choice of a right profession is one of the most dreadful tasks a child has to face in his transition from childhood to adolescence.Throughout the early decades of independence, Indian kids had only a few choices like engineering, medicine, teaching, government service etc.But post liberalization, a number of new industries have emerged , providing todays kids with countless career options. Some other new attractive careers are in the IT , food, hospitality ,fashion  and infrastructure industries.

My desire is to become a software engineer when I grow up. My interest in this field has been since my primary school age. I have always had a fascination for computers.I love playing computer games very much. It was this interest in computer games that sparked off my curiosity about how software code is written, how graphics and animation are done .. and questions like. At a very early age I learnt flash and then started creating games in flash. My father saw this talent of mine and introduced me to his friend's son Mr.Jatin Patel who was an engineer with Microsoft corporation.Mr Jatin has been a very valuable mentor since then, giving me proper guidance in charting my career path and developing the necessary skills to succeed in this field.

The basic skill required for an software engineer is to have a sense of logic and commonsense, a mind that can think in many dimensions simultaneously and the knack of solving problems. I regularly solve puzzles and play chess to improve my analytical skills and problem -solving ability.I have also learnt the basics of operating systems like windows, Linux etc, and programming languages like C, C++,Java etc.I have even bugun to write programs in these languages. Another important skill needed to succeedd in the software industry, for that matter any industry is good communication skills. I have enrolled for laguage and personality development courses to sharpen my communication ability and other soft skills.

I am well awre of the pos and cons of becoming an IT enginer. A software softare professional has to work under tremendous pressure, work late nights and has to meet almost impossible deadlines, He might get no time for family and friends. And as one moves up the ladder, the pressure would only increase.

On the brighter side, this job provides the best salary in the industry. Apart from regular salary hikes, one also gets ample opportunity to travel abroad and in the process make a lot of ,money. More than the money, there are a lot of learning opportunities. Also thereis a deep sense of satisfaction in helping to build systems that make people's lives easier.

My plan is to do my bachelors and masters in engineerinf from ths best engineering college in the country and then bag a job in a reputed company like Microsoft or google..Hope that god willing ,everyting turns out fine and I get a chance to pursue the career of my choice and live the life of my dreams.

corruption: (Indian context essay)

There is no doubt that corruption is one of the biggest obstacles to the country's growth since independence. Corruption , over the last 60 odd years has deeply entrenched itself in every segment of Indian society.Earlier corruption was more synonymous with Government departments and officials. But today even their private sector has joined the race .

Dictionary definitions for corruption range from "lack of integrity or honesty" to "use of a position of trust for dishonest gain".For the Indian common man, corruption for decades was symbolized by the 'babu' of a government office. For any kind of work that needed to be got done from him, he had to be bribed. It did not matter whether the job was perfectly legal and part of his duty, or whether it was an illegal action that that required him to flout the laws.
The 'Babu' then went on to amass a large amount of wealth and lead a luxurious lifestyle. This model of corruption was seen in every sphere of activity, right from the sanctioning of loans to giving licenses, even for the booking of railway tickets. This was the story of the past.

Arrive 21st century. In the new age of globalization, where India has become an aspiring superpower with the second fastest growing economy in the world,Indian companies are raking in millions.Indian firms have globalized their operations and expanded their businesses to unprecedented levels. Sadly , this has led to a more devastating  form of corruption called 'corporate corruption'.While the old corrupt babu of the olden days dealt with thousands of lakhs of rupees, these high-flying modern corporates eat away millions. The most shocking case of recent times was that of the scam in the IT major Satyam. The corporates breed in many ways like tampering with their account books, evading taxes, showing inflated profit margins, bribing government officials to obtain permits and licenses  and manipulating the share market.Further by bribing  government officials for each of their needs the have also taken government level corruption to new level. The Cancer has now spread from the ministers to the bureaucrats ,the armed forces and even the judiciary. The latest corruption case like the 2G telecom scam, the commonwealth games scam and the housing society scams would put even the most backward militarist African nations to shame.
If all this money is put to use for developments purposes, we could easily feed our poor, treat our sick children build houses, roads and what not?

Some promising steps to root out corruption have come from successive governments recently. The CBI, Enforcement directorate, and Vigilance department have been given extra powers to tackle this menace.Government departments have put in place processes to ensure transparency in their work. Officials are much more fearful than before about getting caught for corruption. The Media's role in highlighting corruption needs to be praised.A number of Investigative journalists through thier sting operations and reports have nailed down quite a few high profile individuals indulging in corruption. They have helped in instilling the fear factor among everyone. But still a lot more needs to  be done, especially to nab the officials at the higher levels and the corporate scamsters.

Each one of us can help in rooting out corruption by simply refusing to pay bribes to anyone, no matter how urgent our need is.With earnest efforts from the government  along with public cooperation , we can hope to drive out corruption from our country one day and ensure a better future for the coming generations.

Pollution

"Thank God men cannot fly, and lay waste the sky as well as the earth".  -Henry David Thoreau

This simple statement sums up what Man's attitude towards Mother Naturwe is.

Pollution is probably the most serious issue facing the world today.Yet we keep on turning a blind eye to it,believing that it won't affect us.Pollution of various element sof out ecosystem like air, water, soil and sound has caused serious damage already. In Man's quest for  a better life and his mad rush for material possessions has forgot , or rather chose to ignore the impact of his deeds on the environment.Quite naturally, it is the cities, which are the symbols of man's greed ,which are the centers of most polluting activities. The fumes emanating from vehicles as well as factories have made the air in cities unfit for breathing. Sewage and other garbage from households and factories are regularly dumped into our beautiful rivers and oceans. Most of the garbage and other solid wastes are dumped on the land itself causing land pollution. And as if all these were not enough, excessive honking, blaring of music at loud volume, crackers etc have created a relatively new menace of sound pollution.

The biggest irony of all this is that though it is the earth that gets polluted, ultimately it is man himself who's digging his own grave because pollution not only spoils his own health but also worsens his quality of life. People in cities who are exposed to various kinds of pollution suffer from several ailments like high blood pressure, asthma and skin diseases. Garbage strewn around leads to break out of epidemics like cholera, malaria, chikungunya etc. Poisonous chemicals from the air as well as our water bodies have recently caused an exponential rise in cancer cases.

Now there is an even bigger danger called climate change.Pollution has lead to global warming which has disturbed the global climatic pattern.winters have become warmer, frequency of droughts and floods has increased, and rainfalls have become unpredictable.Things have got to such a level that life on earth itself is under threat.

Scientists say that it is still not late to act, and governments all over the world have started acting. Countries are trying their best to control pollution by adopting measures like control of  CO2 emissions, using clean fuels, proper waste management practices, and planting trees on a large scale.

however no efforts would be complete unless each one us does our bit to protect our environment. We all can contribute in our small way by saving fuel, water and electricity, disposing garbage responsibly and living simple lives. It is the responsibility of each one of us to safeguard the environment so that future generations can enjoy the beauty and bounty of Mother nature.

"There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.  "~Mohandas K. Gandhi

Life In a big city

Life in most big cities is disgusting and we often hear people complain that they are sick of crammed, cribbed and confined life of big cities.Life here is artificial and  completely cut off from nature. For the eternal romantic, it is the last place he would like to be in..In the glare of the neon tubes,he would forget the sun, the moon and the stars.Few people enjoy life in a city as it deprives us of an  inner calm and ecstasy , in spite of all the amenities of modern life that it provides.

Life in a city is more or less like a prison. People there live only to work, and work only for money. They them make money only to spend it, and then remain depressed because they don't have enough money. They are just slaves-slaves of time their money, credit card,s,EMI's ,and also of their companies, their bosses, even their spouses. They work according to a fixed routine, and never have a second to pause. They are deep into the rat race and madly chase the material comforts of life.Sometimes its a battle for survival , a fight for one square meal.Sometimes it could be a fight for the fulfillment of one's dreams,a desire for luxuries and comforts.Nevertheless, its always a struggle for something, the achievement of which will make us struggle for something else.

People in a city have no emotional bonds with anyone, neither friends nor relatives.they remained within closed doors all time. They have no time for social gatherings and friendly visits.Honestly, sincerity, openness ,care and affection are qualities rarely seen among city-dwellers..Most people are selfish, greedy, cunning and crafty.

Apart from personal troubles, the people of big cities also have to grapple with other day-to day problems thanks to the city itself. Most common among among them are Pollution, traffic congestion, overcrowded trains and buses, lack of open spaces, dirty slums, filth and garbage. The pathetic sight of beggars at traffic signals moving among flashy cars carrying wealthy men ,is one of the greatest paradoxes of city life.

But it is not only gloom that a city offers. There are many exciting aspects also, to life in big city.Cities have the best schools, colleges and hospitals. The malls and multiplexes offer consumers a truly satisfying experience.
Further, there are many avenues of entertainment available, like zoos, museums, hotels, theaters, amusement parks etc.Youth from the city have the maximum job opportunities and easily land up with hight paying life.
City life thus offers a lot of glitz and glamour.

To conclude we can say that life in a big city has its joys and sorrows. It is upto the individual to decide what are his likes and dislikes, his aims and priorities and then decide whether to live in a big city or not.

Should Death Penalty be abolished

Death Penalty , or capital punishment is a kind of  punishment in which the convict is sentenced to death. It is considered the biggest punishment to be handed out to a criminal.

Since the beginning of the organised society, capital punishment has been there. In olden days the idea was: "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth".If a man took the life of another man, society took the life of the murderer.Such blood-thirsty punishments are no more in tune with the present civilization.Death punishment cannot be justified on moral or ethical grounds. Is not the judge who  awards the death sentence as great a  murderer as the person whom he has sentenced?

Different methods are used to finish the life of a criminal. The most prevalent are hanging by rope and administering of electric shocks. Some military officers and political prisoners have to face the firing squad. In the olden days, criminals used to be beheaded.Whatever the method, the act is totally barbaric.

More than thirty-five countries have abolished death penalty and the aftermath of it has done no harm to society.According to judicial experts, punishments should be either reformative or deterrent , but death sentence is neither.Murder is committed by the murderer in the heat of the moment and he is completely reckless about the consequences of his action.

Some people even say that life imprisonment is more effective than death sentence. Because being confined to a single room for years gives continuous frustration to the person and also gives him time and a chance to realize his mistake, undergo reform and even begin a new life after his release. It is not as cruel as death penalty but serves the purpose of the punishment.

In the past when most of the crimes where punished by death sentence , people opposed its abolishment, as they believed it would leas to chaos and lawlessness. However, as can be seen from todays world, where death sentence is used only for the gravest of crimes, it has not led to any chaos or anarchy.Further, it has brought some respite to the the convicts who was really innocent and had been wrongly convicted. At least his family can console themselves from the fact that he is alive and would be free someday.

The modern era is an era of new values and principles, such as freedom, democracy, and liberal values.
It is not a society of Barbarism, and so this barbarous punishment of death penalty has no place in the 21st century world. It should be completely abolished from every country in the world, so that even the worst criminal gets another chance to live a better life.

An ideal student

Children are the wealth of a nation.A Nation  that produces a generation of talented and hardworking youth marches ahead on the path of progress. However creating quality citizens is no easy task and cannot be achieved overnight. The first step for that is to produce ideal students in our schools. These ideal students would go  on to become ideal citizens.

Who is an ideal student.? There isn't one definite answer to that because there are many qualities that together define an ideal student. The most important quality of an ideal student is that for him. the foremost duty of his school life is to study. He studies regularly and works hard to improve his performance in each exam. But his objective of studying is not to only score good marks or secure a high rank.Beyond that he has a thirst for knowledge , an interest to learn more about everything he observes.

Apart from studies, an ideal student actively gets involves in other activities. He is good in arts and sports and regularly participates in intra and inter school events. He is an active member of various clubs in the school and helps in organizing events.

But participating in competitions and winning events is not the only big thing in life, and an ideal student knows that very well.Virtues like kindness, compassion, respect , sincerity, honesty, politeness are equally important in todays world, and these qualities are found in abundance in an ideal student. He treats his parents, teachers and elders with respect, and speaks politely to everybody. In times of crisis for his friends, he is the first person to stand by them. He never boasts of his achievements and never gets depressed by his failures. He is always cheerful and maintains a positive approach to life.He spreads hope and happiness wherever he goes.
In short his conduct is admired by everyone.

An ideal student is a voracious reader. He reads the newspaper regularly and is well aware about the events and happenings in various parts of the world. He also reads magazines, noels and short stories.he has an excellent grasp of the language and is very good at communicating things to others.

Last but not the  least, an ideal student loves his parents and family members very much and does as much as he can to help them and to keep them happy. He never wastes his parents' hard-earned money and believes that knowledge is the biggest wealth he can acquire.

An ideal students grows up to be an asset to his family, his society and the country. If only all our schools couls produce more and more ideal students, our country could achieve tremendous progress and become the envy of the whole world..

The Secret of success

We are all born to suceed. We must achieve something great in the limited time that we call life.. This is our duty - a duty that every man or woman should bear. But what should we do in order to achieve success? If you want to be successful in your work, you must follow this rule: focus on only one thing at a time. Indeed, this is a rule for anybody to follow. Some people are too ambitious. They want to do this and they want to do that. They want to do many things at one time, with the result that they accomplish nothing at all. Others are too idle. They do not know the value of time and they always put off until tomorrow what they should do today. They often say that they will do something by and keep putting off things until they cannot be done ant more.

Being successsful doen't require one to be exceptionally talented. It is just a matter of attitiude.
Faith in your abilities, determination to prove something to yourself and the world and the willingness to work hard can do wonders for you in your quest for success.

The March has begun

Dear Friends,

The March towards excellence has already begin!!!!

The flow of the river is so strong that you can't stop it
.So just allow me to grow.
